Description

Algarve Dance Company

Originally named “Beliaev Dance Company” when it was founded in 2002, the Algarve Dance Company was renamed and came into being as it is today in 2004.

The group is comprised of experienced young dancers who have already received international recognition by winning prizes in several competitios.

The Algarve Dance Company has performed more than a hundred events within the region and, in December 2003 also gave a successful performance in Russia which led to subsequent invitations to performances in Germany, France, Spain, Poland, Belgium and Italy.

Citing as his inspiration the likes of ballet and choreography greats such as Maurice Béjart, Mats Ek, Roland Petit, Jirí Kylián, Alvin Ailey, Nacho Duato, John Neumeier among others, the Company’s choreographer and artistic director Evgueni Beliaev uses recognized techniques of previous generations of choreographers enhanced by personal techniques he has developed.

A diverse range of music from the 17th century to the present day provides the inspiration for the Algarve Dance Company, but there is a common theme in choosing great composers who combine passion with a regard for human fragility.

The Algarve Dance Company perform to various classical composers including Mozart, Bach, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev as well as contemporary musicians including Mike Oldfield, Sting, Queen, Bobby McFerrin, Dave Gruzin, John Williams and Dulce Pontes.
