SIXMIX!

SIXMIX!

Description

Who are we?

“Sixmix” is a musical project which I’m included in. And we are six elements:

- Anomada (voice)
- Oleg (guitar)
- Viola (keys)
- Michel (drums)
- Leo (bass guitar)
- Pastilhas (accordion and keys)

A band can play more than one musical style. And with this idea we began to create and play original music, mixing musical styles, based on a sound of rock. Between a “rocky trip” and mixing some Arabic sounds or fado voices, we are crazy enough to play world music, through a flamenco melody, tribal sounds, Russian music, reggae, blues,.. you’ll like it, for sure!
The sky is the limit for us and Smart Rock is the soul of our project and will continue as long as we can!
All our work seeks the best of quality music, the melody and the tune. And we still have a lot to explore searching for new sounds, innovation and recreation of great musical sounds.

How did we meet?

More than a year ago, I put some ads in the “Algarve123″ and soon enough I was contacted by Alfred, the mentor of this project and founder of the “Vimmba group”.
Alfred is a German who lived 25 years in Portugal and you can know more about him in www.senhoralfredo.com.
Initially, the band wanted to play rock covers like most bands in Algarve, but it was Alfred with his vision, who convinced us to create original songs. Today he is in Germany to promote his innovative musical instrument (Vimmba) that gives this name to the Group.
Even without Alfred in Portugal, we still continue what he had already started, creating new songs, always in the perspective to include Alfred and his Vimmba machine in our music every time he comes to Portugal.
The songs

The songs were created in an unexpected way: for example, when we meet for the rehearsal, Oleg says he has a new melody. Then I listen and take home a sample of the melody, and I compose the lyrics, sometimes in Portuguese, others in English. In the following rehearsal, we created the structure of the music and the outline is done, but it doesn’t stay always as we like. So, then Oleg says he goes home, to think about the music… And I think he must think a lot, because when he comes to the next rehearsal he brings to full melody for all instruments and the music is a knockout! After the rehearsal, we comment to each other: “This is without doubt the best music we have done till now.” And before we leave, I say I have new music, with the lyrics and everything. Then I sing them the melody, Oleg takes memory notes and says he goes home again … to think about it. In the next rehearsal, he comes with a complete production of the music and after we practice with our instruments, then a new masterpiece is born!… And when we finish practicing, we say again: “This is certainly the best song we did until today!”

I can tell you that since January, (when the Alfred returned to Germany), we did 11 new songs and we had to put two songs in stand-by to produce after our first concert. (Due to the speed with which we are creating new songs, we decided to put a brake on this collective creativity, to have sufficient time to prepare ourselves for our first concert, March 28, in “Meeting Room”, Tavira).

Have we worked well or not? You will soon see after our concert, but I am sure you’ll agree with me! Without modesty! Now I will present our songs.

Two instrumental:
• The 9th Symphony of Beethoven, the version of Richie Blackmoore, of Deep Purple;
• “Classic”, an original instrumental of Oleg, were we can hear and see Alfred playing his Vimmba machine.

13 songs:
• Zé – based in the German success hit called “Hier kommt Kurt” (music by Frank Zander) adapted to our Portuguese version. It speaks of a special character (Zé) that is announced as the most popular in is street, that we all adore and with whom everyone wants to be. The song is narrated by me and Pastilhas and when Alfred is with us, he assumes the character of “Zé”

• Poison – a powerful rock song, whose melody stays in the ear. Talks about the typical passion of a woman by a hot man who broke her heart. Despite being dangerous for her mental sanity, that doesn’t stop her from drinking the poison that tastes like honey… (music by Oleg and lyrics by Anomada)

• We can’t shut up – a heavy rock that screams the peoples revolution against the powerful sharks that deceive us with their smooth talk… (lyrics and music by Leo)

• Idea – inspired in the sounds of Eastern Europe, is what I call a Polka-rock! Talks about a heavy noise during the night that awakens a sweet lady and gives her a little insomnia and, because the sweet lady cannot go back to sleep, she starts being creative and turns her fantasies in to multiple ideas … … she cannot and she doesn’t want to stop them. (arranged by Oleg and lyrics by Anomada)

• Maybe someday… – our unique and exclusive rock ballad that will touch the most insensitive heart who hears it. In this story, the girl is trying to release herself from her addiction guy who broke her heart, but in between the lines, she almost asks his permission to leave him and search for someone that can love her like she wants, because he is not interested. However, she’s always hoping that he doesn’t let her walk away. The emotional dependence, my God, is very unhealthy for a passionate relationship… (music by Oleg and lyrics by Anomada)

• Penguins – this is the best hard-rock you can hear, men! You just gotta hear! It turns “AC-DC” music into kinder garden songs… well… almost, ehehe. This is almost a hymn to the brave masochists that every year leave the Algarve to make thousands of miles on their bikes to Valladolid, where there’s a motorbike meeting almost as great as the meeting of Faro. Maybe, you think that these bikers do not deserve it, but let me draw your attention to the fact that this meeting takes place in the 1st weekend of January and that Valladolid is located more than a hundred miles north of Salamanca. This means that all is white and frozen. Now, guess why they’re called Penguins? (music by Oleg and lyrics by Anomada)

• The party of the TRA – well, I think we were lacking a reggaezinho already! So, in this song we’re enjoying the positive sound wave of non-government party that will change not only our, but any country! Yes, we can! And I mean no exaggeration when I say this because, if all the citizens of the world Work with Rhythm and Love, the results will reflect universally for our own good! You can write what I’m saying… (music by Oleg and lyrics by Anomada)

• Boxer man – another excellent rock, with very interesting mixture of dance music sounds and Arabic melodies. Sung in English, it speaks of a boxer who built a special machine where he trains boxing and plays music at the same time. There’s nothing wrong about this, except for the fact that he has ceased to pay attention to his lover, because he’s hooked on the machine. But the lover doesn’t want to loose her boxer man and decides that she will fight for him (or against him!) until he comes back to her. Long live the Amazon women! (music by Oleg and lyrics by Anomada)

• Dragon boat – has a history of 12 years that I will summarize as follows: I was at Macau in 1997, and with the help of a great musician, António dos Prazeres (Tonecas for his friends …), I’ve produced this music that speaks of a sports competition, very traditional in Macau. The lyrics are from a famous Macanese poet, José dos Santos Ferreira and music and voices were created by me.
With “Sixmix”, I rearranged the music in the rhythm I like most: with indigenous rhythms and more rocker sounds, keeping both the same chorus of voices that I’m really proud of!

• Restaurador Olex – a soft rock that highlights the contradictions of our society and how people try to be what they’re not. This song speaks of the nature of things that when it gets changed, it becomes self destructive… A game very seriously. (music and lyrics by Anomada)

• Fill Me – is a special blues whose lyrics talk about a typical love declaration to our beloved one. Simple and beautiful. (music and Lyrics of Anomada)

• Mutants – a slow rock in the beginning, and it ends with an impressive strength, with a mix of reminiscent sounds of the Celtics in a house of fados at the Mouraria… More or less… The lyric is not the most pleasant I’ve wrote, but it shows a portrait of some people (that might also live in Mouraria…), and still are looking for self meaning, neglecting themselves, giving up the fight, without expecting anything form themselves or from others who look, but do not see them. (music and lyrics by Anomada; arranged by Oleg)

• And, of course, last but not least, The day is coming – is an intensive rock song that blends sounds of flamenco through. The idea is to motivate the Portuguese and help us believe in ourselves. When that happens, then the day will come, when we will have the opportunity to fulfil our dreams. (You just need to know what they are…) We should repeat several times like Barack Obama did: “Yes, we can!” (music by Oleg and lyrics by Anomada).

With all this power it is impossible to remain indifferent to SIXMIX
